2024 Projects
∎ MOANA MARINE SUPPLIES RED CROSS MAJURO WITH 2 OF SPECTRA’S NEW PORTABLE AQUIFER 4000 WATERMAKING UNITS FOR DISASTER/DROUGHT RELIEF IN THE PACIFIC ISLAND REGION.
The Aquifer 4000 is a high-volume desalination system designed to make 4,300 gallons per day of pure, fresh, drinking water from any water source including fresh, brackish and seawater. This new, portable system can be carried easily by a two-person team. The Aquifer 4000 is an energy efficient system that requires a small 3.5 kW generator for operation and was designed to survive in the toughest environments. This system is ideal for Disaster Relief, Humanitarian Programs and applications where portability is a necessity.

2018 Projects:
∎ INSTALLATION OF THE LARGEST SOLAR AND WIND POWERED R.O. PLANT IN RMI WITH MOANA MARINE’S HYBRID SOLAR AND WIND POWER GRID, Enewetak Atoll, Marshall Islands, March 2018
The project was delayed 8 months due to lack of transport to remote Enewetak Atoll. After undergoing extensive repairs in Fiji, Enewetak’s ship, the Lady E, was finally ready to sail. Loaded with 39 tons of equipment and supplies for the project, the Lady E charged through high wind and seas, managing to hold its course through the adverse conditions. One of the two engines failed. The water pump malfunctioned, preventing access to drinking water. The 3 day passage turned into 5. When the ship finally limped into the Enewetak lagoon, it was discovered that the dock had silted up, preventing the Lady E from tying up. The crew tried to anchor the ship in heavy the winds, but their small anchor was inadequate. They drifted until they were able to enlist help onshore to make a mooring. Once this was accomplished, they were able secure the ship. It took a crew of men 3 days to unload the cargo, one item at a time, first into a small skiff to the dock, and then into a small truck that transported it along 5 miles of unpaved road to the construction site.
The Enewetak people of the Marshall Islands are no strangers to hardship. Forced to leave their ancestral island during the U.S. open air testing of nuclear bombs in the late 1940’s and 50’s, they returned in the 1980’s to face another slow, silent killer: tainted and diminishing fresh water supply. Rising sea levels and severe drought intensified the threat.
Ten years ago, Moana Marine recognized the impending danger to the people of the low-lying islands of the Pacific. While international funding was being channeled into research studies and flow charts, Moana Marine went to work designing and then installing 100% solar and wind powered water purification systems that convert sea water into safe, healthy drinking water, while also providing the community with sources of clean, accessible, renewal energy.
The largest system to date was installed this past April on Enewetak Atoll, providing the 850 residents with a critically needed source of pure water, as well as a state of the art hybrid wind and solar power source, granting them both water security and energy independence. Moana Marine is now able to supply these technologically advanced systems not only in the Marshall Islands, but anywhere in the world. Vance’s innovative, robust design and ability to train local people make his unique water purification systems adaptable to any location.
2017 Projects:
∎ Preparations are underway for the installation of our cutting-edge wind and solar powered RO watermaking system on Enewetak Atoll. This will include 2 Spectra LB-2800 units and our Moana hybrid solar and wind mini-grid, supplying the community with a steady source of electricity to power their homes and community.
∎ We supply IOM Majuro with 12 new, portable, Aquifer 360 watermakers with the Moana solar power packs for rapid drought relief and coordinated the maintenance and rapid deployment readiness of their now 72 Aquifer 360 supply.
2015-2016 Projects:
∎ Moana Marine Installs a Spectra LB-800 RO plant on Ailuk Atoll powered by a Moana Solar Mini-Grid, to power the airport terminal.
∎ We install Ebon Atoll’s first Moana Solar Mini-Grid to power the Community Center.
∎ We supply the Palau government with 6 portable Aquifer 360 watermaking units for emergency drought relief.
∎ In unity with the people of Utrik, we co-host the United Nations Development Program and RMI leadership on Utrik Atoll to inspect and record our 100% solar and wind powered RO water installation, in order to replicate it in other parts of the world. The solar and wind installation also powers the airport terminal.
2014 Projects:
∎ Moana Marine expands Utrik’s solar capacity to power their Community Center. Funded by the United Nations.
∎ We complete Kili Atoll’s wind and solar powered RO plant, producing 5600 gallons per day of pure drinking water for the exiled Bikini Islander community. Features include a new RO building, beach well, wind turbine, PV array, and post-treatment with UV, pH balancing and remineralization. The elders call it “holy water”, because it heals them of many medical conditions suffered as a result of drinking brackish water.
On the day of the Completion Ceremony, sunrise turns the wind turbine golden, a sign to the Elders that their new RO water is indeed blessed.
